Although Unicode includes the entire ASCII character sets used on the PC, Unicode art also differs greatly from both ASCII art and ANSI art leaving us with a need to place it into two simple and generalized basic stylistic categories due to the nature of the fonts intended to be used for optimal viewing:
Other indicators may include colour and animation, but these aren't as important as the two style categories because they're expansions rather than limitations. A few simple examples of Unicode art by Randolf Richardson (in British Columbia, Canada) provided in the hopes of encouraging other ASCII artists to make some attempts:
